The Milkworms
Safe As Worms
The Milkworms is a musical project with my longtime friend and musical collaborator Matthew Woodhouse. It was with Matthew and Col, alongside Chris Young (AKA Spud) on bass, that I started the band Canvas, initially playing at the Marsden Grotto open mic nights.
When we started jamming together again in around 2023, it was initially with a view to writing a concept album based on the epic Stephen King novel 'The Stand', with a tentative band name of 'The Boulder Free Zone Committee'. Matthew even got as far as writing a couple of songs on the theme, including 'BOOSH' which made the album in the end.
For whatever reason, that project stalled, but we kept writing anyway and started loosely recording songs as we went. At some point these demos coalesced into an intention to release an album, so we went back to thinking about names. This naturally descended into a competition of coming up with the worst puns, and when Matthew came up with 'The Milkworms' would couldn't stop laughing and the name stuck.
