Running From The Dogs

Give me your wallet Give me your passport and your cards Get out of my city Or you're gonna find life very hard Down here in the traffic Where you can't even see the evening sky Do we stay here and fight it Or forget it and spread our wings and fly?

It's been a long night We've come so far to reach the land And we're almost there now The delta is darkened by the sand I've never known a welcome Never known a night to be so warm We're a million miles Half the world from the city storm

We watch the sunrise And feel the warmth upon our face And we're up early But that's just life in this place And the time goes so slow And the drinks are always quick to flow You feel the breeze blow Lifting the birds blue and yellow

And if you could feel it You'd stay here all your given days And I would believe it If you walked out of the purple haze But it's never perfect When you think you've found paradise The dogs start barking And you're left running for your life

Hiding from the heat where all the dealers meet The sea might be blue but there's nothing much left For us to do Swinging from the bark and running from the sharks How can you tell if you're walking into heaven Or to hell?

And maybe tomorrow The city might not look so bad The people might hurt you But we shouldn't forget the fun we had Or if we take a wander We might find some hidden track And if nobody sees us We might even make it back

To make our own way We should be thankful for the choice Think of the people All over the world without a voice But we'll have to hurry 'Cause it's not safe inside this town When all the while The wild dogs are closing us down

Running from the hounds on unfamiliar grounds Cruising by the point while the driver inhales Another joint Breakneck speed on the finest weed They will not discriminate on colour Class or creed

All over the world You've got to stick to what you know And when you feel down You've just got to smoke what you can grow In a fine or a hard place Sometimes you can't stay there any more And it's only a mile to town But you know that there's dogs right at your door
