Newcastle claimed a welcome, rare win at Stamford Bridge on Saturday teatime, Anthony Gordon scoring the only goal of a game in which the hosts dominated statistically but summarily failed to threaten.

Things got off to a bizarre start, Liam Rosenior's policy of having his team conduct a rousing huddle in the opposition's half seemingly blocked by referee Anthony Taylor, who stood on the halfway line.

Rather than, you know, having their huddle in their own half, they surrounded Taylor, who stood in the middle of the huddle like an impotent mug.

For some reason, Rosenior was fuming at the referee after the game, presumably in an act of pure deflection from his honking team.

Gordon's goal followed good link up play between Livramento and Willock to set up Gordon who finished and from there we never really looked in danger until Reece James struck the post from a free kick in stoppage time.

The win moved us back into the top half, six points behind Chelsea and with everything still to play for.
