Newcastle got back to winning ways against second-bottom Burnley on Saturday afternoon, but only after yet another stoppage time collective brainfart almost proved catastrophic.

Having thrown away the win against Spurs in the week, this looked like the perfect fixture ahead of a somewhat nerve wracking week comprising trips to Leverkusen and Wearside.

However, the opening minutes were as disjointed as anything we've seen this season as a Newcastle side containing six changes couldn't get close to a Burnley who, in the words of Ando, were playing like Barcelona.

We did eventually get a foothold in the game, and when Bruno arced a corner straight over Dubravka and into the net, it looked like smooth sailing.

When Elanga raced through on 45 minutes and got on the end of a sumptuous Gordon pass and was tripped, Burnley were reduced to 10, and on the stroke of half time Gordon smashed home his second penalty in a week.

The second half played out exactly as expected as we conserved energy, and the most exciting thing that happened was Yoane Wissa making his long, long awaited debut.

That is, until stoppage time, which seems to be something of a curse for us this season when all logic and composure go out the window.

Today's villain was Jacob Ramsey, inexplicably handling the ball in the box.

Ramsdale got close to the penalty but couldn't get a hand to it, and the last kick of the game was a Burnley cross that somehow evaded three well placed attackers and sailed out of play.

A draw today after leading 2-0 really would have been tough to take, but as it is we managed to just about see it out, and go into a tough week on the back of three wins and a draw from our last four.
